17 Miles
3,000' Climbed
around 5,000 descended!
Today was the last day of the trip. We left Guitar Lake and climbed about 2000' to get to the Whitney Trail Junction. From there I dropped my backpack and climbed up to the official end of the JMT and the highest location in the lower 48 states. It is really nice to see a plan come to completion. While up there the air was thin! Joel was able to hang out a little longer. Some dude was taking pictures of a Smurf with a Golden Torch and Joel wrote a song about it. One woman was using the top of Mt. Whitney for the starting point for a 14 day trip to Yosemite and back (known as Yo-Yoing).
The downhill was ugly. Inyo park just does not take care of the trails the same way Sequoia does. I think we exited around 6:30pm
Thanks to everyone who helped me get prepared for this trail especially my wife Audrey. Extra thanks go out to Joel Walter, Kevin Carlisle and Puck Dunnaway.
